Description
The Office of Budget and Finance is seeking a Accountant, Senior to coordinate countywide responsibilities related to accounting for revenues/receivables, purchasing card transactions, subscription-based information technology arrangements (SBITAs) using PeopleSoft applications, and other specialized software. This position will have additional wide-ranging duties as a key member of a team responsible for the county’s accounting and financial reporting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant accounting, and other functions.

Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Based on business needs of this position, hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
· Manage the county’s accounting for non-tax electronic receipts.
· Be responsible for key treasury/bank accounting responsibilities.
· Assist with auditing purchasing card program transactions.
· Be responsible for SBITA accounting for all county funds, with duties ranging from the identification of new assets and completion of detailed data entry to journal entry preparation and providing summary reports for management.
· Prepare and process accurate journal entries and other system transactions.
· Review financial reports and prepare ad hoc reports for management.
· Monitor clearing accounts to ensure appropriate application of revenues for accounts receivable (AR) items.
· Manage reconciliations for various general ledger accounts.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Six years or more of professional experience in a specific functional area of accounting, auditing, or financial management.
o Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or other specialty area related to the position and two years or more of professional experience in a specific functional area of accounting, auditing, or financial management.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o With governmental accounting and financial reporting, including experience with year-end accounting processes, accounts receivables, and working closely with external auditors.
o With technical accounting that includes experience related to the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant accounting areas.
o Conducting complex and routine financial, operational and technology audit procedures including adequacy of financial and technology controls.
o Working with Microsoft Office applications, PeopleSoft Financials, or other electronic accounting system.
· Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
· Ability to:
o Handle multiple priorities with minimal direction.
o Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
o Meet deadlines and produce accurate work in a fast-paced office environment.
o Be flexible, highly organized, and self-directed with strong documentation skills.
o Establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the organization.
