Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to join our administrative team. This position is essential for maintaining the accuracy of Pluswood’s financial records and supporting the company’s fiscal health. The Accounting Manager will work closely with the leadership team on all customer and vendor accounts, handling all accounts payable and receivable functions, overseeing all customer collections efforts as necessary, and ensuring financial compliance and integrity. This role will support both the distribution business (Pluswood) and the trucking division (Kirk). This role offers the flexibility of a remote or hybrid work environment for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Customer and Vendor Account Management: Collaborate with the leadership team to oversee all customer and vendor accounts, handling accounts payable and receivable with accuracy and efficiency.
Customer Collections: Oversee all customer collections efforts as necessary, ensuring timely follow-ups and resolution of outstanding balances.
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards.
General Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger by recording all financial transactions accurately and reconciling accounts to ensure completeness.
Reconciliation: Conduct monthly bank and account reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing insights into financial trends and supporting departmental financial planning.
Expense Management: Track company expenses, monitor spending patterns, and make recommendations for cost-saving opportunities.
Financial Analysis: Perform ad-hoc financial analysis as requested by leadership to support strategic decision-making.
Tax Support: Support Pluswood’s outside tax consultant with the necessary documentation and reports and assist with the overall tax preparation process.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in accounting or a related role.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or other ERP systems) and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Ability to learn and work within an inventory management system. Pluswood uses Fishbowl.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reporting.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills for working within a team and across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or working toward CPA certification is a plus, but is not required.
Experience in the distribution, wholesale, or construction industry.
Familiarity with inventory accounting and cost accounting.
