The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking a Drug Screening Laboratory Assistant to support the Adult Field Services area with urinalysis collection for clients who are court ordered to undergo random drug testing. For more information visit employee referral program.Location and hours: This position will be primarily work at the Hennepin County Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and the Probation Center North satellite office at 4336 Lyndale Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55412. The hours of the drug testing lab are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The work schedule will vary to meet these needs and will not exceed 40 hours per week.About the position type: This is a full-time, benefit earning position.This position is internally classified as a Laboratory Assistant.Click here to view the job classification specification.This position requires direct observation of female clients submitting urinalysis, so being female has been determined to be a Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ), therefore this position must be filled by a female applicant.
In this position, you will:
Greet, check in, and verify client information.
Explain protocols and procedures for the drug urinalysis, breathalyzer tests, and DNA collections.
Observe clients during urinalysis collection and administer breathalyzer tests.
Register clients into the BCA (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension) website and collect buccal swab DNA samples.
Prepare specimen for analysis.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Completion of an approved phlebotomy certification course.
Completion of ten quarter credits of biology or chemistry college courses.
Six months or more of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Nice to have:
Experience:
Administering urinalysis for the purpose of drug testing.
Working with chemically dependent clients.
Handling highly confidential client medical information.
Working in a lab setting using a drug testing specimen analyzer.
Knowledge of:
State of Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS) computer system.
Adult Field Services Court Services Tracking System (CSTS) computer system.
Statewide Supervision System (S3).
Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) computer system.
Ability to:
Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, co-workers, and the public.
Resolve problems and develop creative solutions.
Prioritize work involving large caseloads and work independently with minimal direction.
Work effectively with an increasingly diverse client population.
Invitations to interview will be based upon an assessment of education and experience. Final candidates may be required to complete a drug test that may include testing for cannabis and/or a criminal background check.
