Description
We're hiring a Survey Crew Member - Assistant Engineering Technician or Engineering Technician (depending on qualifications) for the Surveyor's Office that will be working in the office using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to draw various survey products. This position will require use and proficiency with CAD software. The Hennepin County Surveyor's Office maintains and preserves the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) throughout Hennepin County. The office also provides surveying services for the County including the Department of Transportation, Examiner of Titles, Regional Railroad Authority, Property Services and Tax Forfeited Lands.

Salary based upon qualifications: Engineering Technician, Assistant (Level I): $46,330.04 - $60,561.98 AnnuallyEngineering Technician (Level II): $58,516.84 - $69,767.50 Annually
Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center at 300 6th South, Minneapolis, MN 55487, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
· For hire as an Assistant Engineering Technician (Level I):
o Use CAD software to draw boundary, topographic, American land title association (ALTA), and other survey products.
o Research public records, assist in maintaining records of Public Land Survey corners.
o Analyze field data and operate computer equipment.
· For hire as an Engineering Technician (Level II, includes the above duties):
o Direct and check the work of technicians in lower-level job classes.
Need to have:
· For hire as an Assistant Engineering Technician (Level I):
o One of the following:
§ Completion of an approved highway/civil engineering technology or land surveying training program.
§ Thirty (30) college semester credits in mathematics, geography, computer science, or engineering related technical courses.
§ One year or more years of experience in technical non-professional highway, land survey, geographic information systems application, or related engineering work.
§ One year or more years of experience analyzing numerical data using computer software applications or developing and maintaining computerized information system applications.
· For hire as an Engineering Technician (Level II):
o One of the following:
§ Three years or more of experience in technical non-professional highway, land survey, geographic information systems application, or related engineering work.
§ Three years or more of college or technical school credits in a related engineering or computer science field.
§ Current certification as a Certified Survey Technician (CST), Level 2.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o Using CAD software programs.
o Working in a CAD environment.
o Working with the Public Land Survey System.
o Using computer software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, and Adobe Acrobat.
· Knowledge of math functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; and the ability to apply math functions to survey and mapping solutions.
· Knowledge of CAD software programs; and the ability to sync with surveying field equipment to download/upload data.
