Family Mediation and Evaluation (FME) is seeking a Family Mediator and Evaluators to join their team. FME assists families in resolving custody and parenting time disputes. This position will work with parties to create child-focused custody and parenting time arrangements through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services and through comprehensive evaluations assessing the children’s best interests for custody and parenting time. This position requires skills that can be applied to family mediation and to conducting and writing custody and parenting time evaluations for family court.
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed remotely via Microsoft Teams, meeting clients in the community, and on-site at one or more Hennepin County Human Services Center locations, as job duties require. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to work evening and weekend hours if desired by the employee and if supported by a business need. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements, hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota.
In these positions, you will:
Provide ADR services such as mediation, Social Early Neutral Evaluation (SENE), and facilitated settlement conferences related to custody and parenting time disputes.
Conduct custody and parenting time evaluations and brief focused assessments.
Assess concerns parties present around the best interests of their children which may include chemical dependency, co-parent communication, domestic violence, mental and physical health, parenting skills, cultural issues, and child development.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Master's Degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement education, or a related field, including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if needed for degree program), and three years of full-time equivalent work experience in social work, corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, district court or probation/parole.
Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the above areas and five years of full-time equivalent work experience in one of the areas listed above.
Bachelor's degree or higher in a non-related field and six years of full-time equivalent experience of approved, related paid or volunteer experience in one of the areas listed above.
A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
Nice to have:
Completed Minnesota Supreme Court approved family mediation training, or court approved social early neutral evaluation (SENE) training.
Listed on the roster of Qualified Neutrals under Minnesota General Rules of Practice - Rule 114.
Experience and/or training in one or more of the following areas:
Family counseling.
Family or juvenile court.
Child protection.
Direct therapeutic counseling services.
Guardian ad litem services.
Experience:
Conducting mediation or social early neutral evaluation (SENE).
Evaluating and analyzing complex issues and writing comprehensive, persuasive professional reports.
Interviewing individuals and families and handle high-conflict families.
Facilitating group discussions and managing conflict.
Ability to:
Work effectively with an increasingly diverse client population, including people with English as their second language.
Work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task and remain organized.
Recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally informed services.
Assess families around areas of domestic abuse, chemical health/mental health issues, and child development.
Knowledge of electronic case management system such as the Domestic Relations Service (DRS).
