The Support Staff Services area of the Health and Human Services department is seeking to fill multiple Office Specialist III positions assigned to provide a variety of clerical, administrative, and office services to the Hennepin County Human Service Centers. These positions will be responsible for greeting clients and assessing their needs, answering questions about the services available at the center and explaining application procedures. In addition, these positions will provide administrative support to the supervisors and managers of the Human Service Center, screen client's eligibility for various programs and enter case information into various Department of Human Service systems.
Location and hours:
These positions are onsite at one of the Human Services Center locations listed below and work hours for these positions are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
South Minneapolis Human Service Center at 2215 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55407
South Suburban - VEAP Community Center at 9600 Aldrich Avenue South, Bloomington, MN 55420
North Minneapolis Human Service Center at 1001 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55411.
In these positions, you will:
Meet and greet clients and assess their needs.
Screen clients by asking predetermined questions to assist teams in determining eligibility for clients and help with directing them to the most appropriate service.
Process and/or update data in the various state and Hennepin County systems.
Assign cases to the appropriate team using Microsoft Access and Q-Flow.
Update and assemble procedure manuals.
Maintain inventory and order office supplies, forms, and packets as needed.
Assist with coverage as assigned at the various Human Service Centers/Satellite offices located in Brooklyn Center, North Minneapolis, Downtown Minneapolis, South Minneapolis, Hopkins, and Bloomington.
Cross-train on multiple tasks within the service area and the Health and Human Services department.
Schedule meetings and check calendar availability for meetings using Microsoft Outlook as well as attending and participating in monthly staff meetings.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Two years or more of office clerical experience.
Two years or more of related post-high school education.
18 months or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.
One year or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Human Services Pathway Training Program.

Experience:
Using databases and computerized systems to perform data entry where accuracy is essential.
Serving clients and supporting staff using various communication methods, while giving clear and concise information and/or direction.
Working with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams & Word).
Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.
Ability to:
Work with external and internal customers professionally and with tact and discretion.
Work with clients with English as their secondary language.
Handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously, and to work independently with minimal direction.
Recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services.
Proofread numbers, correspondence, and other written materials for spelling, grammar, and format accuracy.
