Description
The Adult Representation Services (ARS) department is seeking to hire a full-time or part-time Parent Mentor for the Health Equity Legal Project (HELP). The goal of the HELP program is to provide upstream legal and social supports to new or expecting parents facing challenges that put them at risk for involvement with child protection. Parent mentors will work directly with HELP program participants as a supportive and empathetic advocate to develop an empowerment plan, connect to community resources, and help navigate assistance for concerns related to housing, substance use, and mental health to avoid child protection involvement.ARS provides high-quality, holistic, and equitable representation to clients experiencing poverty in certain civil matters where fundamental rights are impacted such as child protection, guardianship, commitment, housing, and child support contempt.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. This position is located in downtown Minneapolis at the Health Services Building at 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415, and community sites as needed. Core work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional required evening or weekend hours to meet client and community needs.

· Maintain a caseload of parents participating in the program, including serving as their primary point of contact with the office.
· Assist in screening potential program participants.
· Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of parents’ needs, develop service plans with them, and connect them with resources and services.
· Meet with parents regularly in office and/or community settings.
· Provide support and guidance to parents.
· Work with parents’ support networks, when appropriate.
· Participate on interdisciplinary legal teams with attorneys, social support professionals, and other staff.
· Support clients in navigating through various systems, including court, chemical and mental health, social services, and others, and interacting with other parts of the legal system, when needed.
Need to have:
· Access to reliable transportation for travel to community locations as needed (travel incurred as part of work responsibilities is reimbursable).
Nice to have:
· Experience navigating child protection systems, identifying resources, and working with individuals who face barriers accessing services.
· Be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or be eligible and willing to become a CPRS within the first six months of employment.
· Ability to:
o Demonstrate empathy and provide support without judgement.
o Build trusting relationships with clients, colleagues, and external organizations while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
o Exercise independent judgement and initiative while managing a caseload.
o Prioritize multiple demands on your time.
o Use an electronic case management system.
