Description
Hennepin County is hiring a Probation/Parole Officer for the Adult Field Services (AFS) division within the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). This position is in the Enhanced Supervision Unit and supervises probationary clients who have committed a *** offense. The officer works toward client change and public safety through a combination of offender assessments, individualized case planning, and supervision strategies matched to offender need and risk. Salary based upon qualifications and duties:
Probation/Parole Officer salary: $58,614.98 - $87,922.48 Annually Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $61,545.73 - $92,318.60 Annually Probation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $67,854.17 - $101,781.26 Annually
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with flexibility. While this position is designated as remote, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. In this position, you will:
· Assess client risk and needs and provide guidance, counseling, and monitoring as appropriate.
· Supervise clients in accordance with supervision standards and case plans including transfer cases from outside of Hennepin County.
· Prepare pre-sentence investigations, court reports, court orders and attend court hearings.
· Provide and use resources related to sexual or pornography addiction, sexual health, chemical use, abusive behaviors, mental health treatment and monitoring; cognitive behavioral interventions; and work in collaboration with stakeholders to address specific needs and risk of an offender.
· Assist clients in completion of initial Predatory Offender Registration paperwork and maintain compliance with *** offender registration statutes.
· Review forensic reports and follow search and seizure evidence procedure.
· Maintain case files, records, and correspondence.
· Perform onsite Officer of the Day duties.
· Conduct field and home visits.
o Individuals hired at the Probation Officer (PO) level must demonstrate an ability to supervise a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position through formal and informal training, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.
Need to have:
· For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
o Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
· For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.

Nice to have:
· Experience:
o Writing presentence investigations.
o Performing case management with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Working in a probation or supervised release (parole) position.
o Working with individuals with a history of sexually offending or with predatory offender registration requirements.
· Knowledge of:
o The criminal justice system.
o The principles of Evidence-Based Practices.
o AFS policies and procedures.
· Ability to:
o Complete static, stable, and acute assessments.
o Use differing intervention strategies which facilitate offender change.
