Description
Hennepin County is hiring a Probation Officer/Senior/Career for the Model Drug Court Unit in the Adult Specialized Services Division of the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). The clients in Drug Court are supervised individually by the assigned supervising agent but work within a team model. The supervising agent will prepare court reports, court orders, attend court hearings, hold regular meetings with clients, and prepare reports as necessary. Individuals who bring forth a combination of diverse employment history and lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Salary based upon qualifications:
Probation/Parole Officer salary: $58,614.98 - $87,922.48 Annually Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $61,545.73 - $92,318.60 Annually Probation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $67,854.17 - $101,781.26 Annually
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. with flexibility; court is mandatory each week. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. In this position, you will:
· Supervise a culturally diverse caseload in a treatment court model.
· Evaluate client’s initial risk and needs, utilizing objective assessments and other screening instruments; interpret and assess the information to inform supervision and make referrals for treatment or programming.
· Assist clients in maintaining compliance with best practices for treatment court supervision.
· Provide tools to set the foundation for a client to build a support system that positively impacts the client’s well-being and promotes success with supervision.
· Problem-solve with referring judges, treatment court stakeholders, substance use professionals and clients in a client-centered, culturally competent, and responsive manner.
o Individuals hired at the Probation Officer (PO) level must supervise a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and manage more complex cases, independently develop/adjust supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Career PO level will operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, use correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.
Need to have:
· For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
o Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program); and one or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.

Nice to have:
· Experience:
o Working with clients with chemical dependency and mental health diagnoses.
o Performing case management with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Working in a probation or supervised release (parole) position.
· Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
· Knowledge of the principles of Evidence-Based Practices.
· Ability to use differing intervention strategies which facilitate offender change.
· Ability to work with a diverse population.
· Excellent communication skills and well organized, detail oriented, and comfortable with evolving technology.
