Description
Hennepin County is hiring Probation/Parole Officers for the Neighborhood Unit within the Adult Probation Supervision Service division of the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). Positions are open to different levels of experience/qualifications and could also be hired into the Probation/Parole Officer (PO), Senior, or Career level depending on the candidate.These Probation/Parole Officer positions supervise people who have been assessed at a high-risk to reoffend, weapon, narcotics, and group involved offenses. These Probation/Parole Officers work toward client change as well as public safety through a combination of client assessments, individualized case planning, and supervision strategies matched to client need and risk. The Neighborhood Unit services are delivered in various Minneapolis neighborhoods. These positions will primarily be focused in the communities of Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center creating and sustaining partnerships with community organizations, law enforcement agencies, and local leaders. Probation/Parole Officers within Neighborhood Probation Services are credible, trusted partners in neighborhood crime-reduction. Salary based upon qualifications:
Probation/Parole Officer salary: $58,614.98 - $87,922.48 Annually Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $61,545.73 - $92,318.60 AnnuallyProbation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $67,854.17 - $101,781.26 Annually

Location and hours:
These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site at multiple sites in Minneapolis, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, and remote as job duties permit. Work hours are generally between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but will require some nontraditional hours/days to attend community meetings and events. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. · Assess client risk and needs and provide guidance, counseling, and monitoring as appropriate.
· Supervise clients in accordance with supervision standards and case plans.
· Prepare pre-sentence investigations, court reports, court orders and attend court hearings.
· Provide and use resources related to chemical use, abusive behaviors, mental health treatment and monitoring; cognitive behavioral interventions; and work in collaboration with other resources to address specific needs and risk of an offender.
· Maintain case files, records, and correspondence.
· Perform Onsite Officer of the Day duties.
· Conduct field and home visits.
o Individuals hired at the PO level must demonstrate an ability to supervise a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position through formal and informal training, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.

· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit and one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
· Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate (Download PDF reader) may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior:
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit and one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
