Description
Hennepin County's Strategic Planning and Initiatives department is seeking a Strategic Planning Consultant to facilitate strategic planning processes with departments across the organization. This position will learn from and work closely with senior strategic planning consultants on the team to guide the development and execution of department-level strategic planning and performance management efforts. Initiatives led and supported by the strategy management team are complex and have department and enterprise-wide impacts that are critical to advancing the county’s commitments to disparity reduction, racial equity, and climate action.

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Government Center (300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55415) or Ridgedale Library (12601 Ridgedale Drive, Minnetonka, MN 55305) and remote as job duties require. Work hours will primarily be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.
In this position, you will:
· Support senior planning consultants in the execution of planning processes by engaging the appropriate functional experts in the process, applying the department’s quality standards to planning deliverables, facilitating planning sessions, and managing project timelines and risks.
· Support project leads in the execution of strategic initiatives, which includes supporting the management of scope, risks, timelines, and creation of project deliverables to meet identified outcomes for the project.
· Monitor, evaluate, and communicate the progress of strategic plans though ongoing performance management efforts.
· Develop and contribute to the ongoing advancement of tools, frameworks, standards, and communication materials for strategy management work across the organization.
· Work with a strategic planning network across the organization to effect broader change and learning among Hennepin County practitioners to advance leading industry practices.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Six or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
o Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and two or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
Nice to have:
· Experience in:
o Planning and facilitating large and small group meetings to build alignment among participants and to effectively move work forward.
o Gathering or using end-user or community feedback to determine how a project or solution is designed or implemented.
o Diagnosing business problems and developing and implementing solutions.
o Creating PowerPoint presentations or developing reports to guide a conversation or communicate information to varied and non-technical audiences.
· Ability to:
o Work independently or with a team and consult with leadership when appropriate.
o Build and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, from leaders to frontline staff.
o Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously to deliver high-quality, on-time products to clients.
· Skill in:
o Using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) to organize work and communicate results.
o Applying diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices to projects to help reduce racial and other disparities in the community.
